Qasr al-Yahud, Israel: Can you imagine standing by the gentle waters of the Jordan River, where Jesus himself was baptized by John the Baptist two thousand years ago. In 2030, Christians from all over the world will gather there to remember that powerful moment — and both Israel and Jordan are already working hard to welcome them with open hearts.
This isn’t just another big event. For millions of believers, Jesus’ baptism marks the beginning of His public ministry — the moment the heavens opened, the Spirit descended like a dove, and God’s voice declared, “This is my beloved Son.” It’s a sacred reminder of new beginnings, cleansing, and God’s love for us.
What’s happening right now?
On the Israeli side (at Qasr al-Yahud), they’ve already given the site a beautiful upgrade with new walkways, shaded prayer spots, better facilities for pilgrims, and easier access to the river. They’ve formed a special team led by Ambassador George Deek to talk with churches worldwide and prepare for millions of visitors.
On the Jordanian side (at Al-Maghtas or Bethany Beyond the Jordan), King Abdullah II is personally watching over the preparations. They’re building new infrastructure, improving roads and services, and planning a special museum and a first-century style village so pilgrims can feel closer to the time of Jesus. The goal is to keep the holy feeling of the place while making it ready for large crowds.
Pilgrims can expect safer and more comfortable visits — places to pray quietly by the river, better restrooms, shaded areas, and possibly special prayer events and gatherings. Both countries want to protect the sacred atmosphere while helping people experience this holy place meaningfully.
For the entire Christian world, 2030 is more than a celebration. It’s a chance to remember our roots, renew our faith, and stand together in the very waters where it all began. Whether you come to dip your feet in the river, pray, or simply reflect — this anniversary promises to be a deeply moving experience.
Two thousand years later, the same river still flows. And in 2030, believers from every nation may gather again on its banks to say thank you — for the love, the hope, and the new life that started right there.
